If you are going to that trouble, I would do a 20 amp circuit with a GFI. That is what I ran for mine. Cheap insurance.

Is your sump acrylic? You should be able to trim some since a sump is not full like a tank. A router is the easiest way. If you trim off much, you could glue on a cross brace near the cut out area.

Use a razor blade to remove all of the silicone from the damaged corner. Chean the area and the surrounding silicone with rubbing alcohol. I like to tape the area so the seam has nice straight lines....
