Be CAREFUL when you pull out the impeller. you need to pull it out perfectly straight. If you angle it too much, you'll snap the brittle ceramic shaft. I speak from experience.

That is a great idea. A lot of ppl feed their skimmer with the water from the overflow return. This is done because that water is the dirtiest.

Deep cycle marine batteries are IMO the best...

Deep cycle marine batteries are IMO the best thing next to a generator. They will run for days. You do need a charger, and an inverter.
