Thanks. Doing a detailed, illustrated build up takes more time than I would have available now. It's also frustrating to interrupt progress to take pictures. I'll likely stick to just posting...

I've gone ahead and purchased the Iwaki 100 pump. I'm going to be installing the PVC pipe today (1.5" drain line, 1" return line). I think I'm going to try to have an equal amount of water volume...

Wow, 5200 gph. That's pretty sick. That's not a bad price for that much water movement, but that's way more than I would ever need.

I ordered one of these for water movement in the tank:

I'll divert some of the extra flow to the refugium, so it won't really be wasted. I'll ask my first question now. :) How big of a refugium should I go for and how much flow should it get? Also,...

That's what I get for posting when I'm tired. I meant, the line has to go up 7-10 feet and travel another 20 or so feet horizontally. It's going across my basement to the other side of the house to...

As for a basement sump. Is it really practical to have one with the water traveling that long of a distance? Would say,...

Pumping water from basement

I apologize if this has been asked before, but the search function is acting stupid right now and I can't search.

I moved my tank in early November. It seemed to hold up pretty well. It actually wasn't as difficult as I had imagined. I think I lost my peppermint shrimp...

I've been rather discouraged about the tank the past few months. I tried to add a sump, but that didn't work. It was too loud. I was being overrun with cyano and nothing I did was helping, so I...

I do weekly water changes of about 15%, so I'm not worried about that. I'm more worried about having bacteria in the display that might kill any future fish I add. I think I'm going to go ahead and...

I know you can paint the PVC, but I didn't want to take a chance of having the paint leak something into the water. The gray PVC cost the same as the white, so I just went with the gray.

I will...

I ordered gray PVC so the closed loop piping won't be so noticeable and my local Home Depots don't supply the gray kind. They'll be here Monday, so that gives the silicon in the sump plenty of time...
