You want natural processes to remove nitrates i.e. LR. How old is your tank? Is it fully cycled? Is your goal a reef tank or a Fish Only?

for a nano? You could probably get away with big gobs of marine epoxy... You can get crazy with acrylic rods glued into disks and drilling of the rock. Quite a bit more messy, but bulletproof...
