Re: Making my durso way more quieterer

I think your problem is on the other end of the pipe... Too much back pressure prevents the water from draining normally, so water builds up in the overflow box. Once there is enough water above the...

I agree. Odds are it has a tempered bottom. It is very rare these days for "off the shelf" tanks to be made with plate glass on the bottom.

You should be able to drill through the back though.

I'm a bit confused on your standpoint. Are you suggesting that the light green area is the coral's tissue?

I will agree that type of algae is not the kind that encrusts or forms a mat over a...

ReefLux 10K

I'd suggest getting a tank though; tubs make it harder to maintain and monitor/admire the corals b/c you can only see through the top.

It would be white, but because it's such a "pure" surface, algae will take to it quickly. Break a branch off of one of the dead areas and see what color it is in the center. Then give it a 12-36...

Only the tip of this coral is alive (the darker area). The shedding you mention sounds like RTN - where the coral's tissue is rapidly lost, usually from the base up. The "somewhat porous looking,...

Membranes are rated to operate at 77 degrees. Because colder water is more dense, subtract 1.4% of output for every degree below 77. At 40 degrees, you get half the rated output.

Are you sure your TDS meter is accurate? What is it saying your source water is?

I shoot for 8-9dKH now. I used to run it 11-12dKH, but b/c my tank had very low nutrients there was a lot of color loss in the corals. Here is a link where others note the same trend:...

I prefer to use a Dremel bit on smaller tanks. I've had success with the #7134 Diamond Wheel Point. Basically, I poke a hole in the glass then trace out the BH circle using an up/down "sawing"...

If you're planning on keeping a reef tank, I'd suggest getting a 75gpd unit b/c they're probably the most economical. Instead of running the unit whenever you need water, fill a trash can or some...

Kinda hard to I'd say for sure, but my vote would be Pavona. Could be a stunted decussata, but most likely frondifera or cactus. Do you have any other pics?
