DSB Gone Bad?

Anyone have any bad experiences with old DSB's. My water tests perfect for ph ammonia nitrites and nitrates. But all the coral in my tank looks closed up and i am getting this greenish brown slime...

How about adding a few small fish to the refuge to produce some detritus. Something that would not eat the benifitial critters but would eat some flake food.
