You might be able to get away with a mated pair.

I would stay away from cucumbers. While they offer some benefits and are good at CUC duties, they can kill everything in the tank if they freak out and spew toxin.

You're going to have a very hard time controlling it as glass and sand are basically silica.

It should stabilize over time and not be an issue

Brass is high in copper, etc.
