I keep mostly stony corals in the reef tank. SPS corals are domninant, but I also keep several LPS and a few soft corals (mostly zoanthids). The plant tank is not intended just as nutrient export,...

That's exactly the idea. It's been about 6 months since I began doing it. Nitrates weren't high before (around 10), but after adding the plant tank to the system it kept climbing while phosphate...

I've thought about it, but I don't dose it regularly. I don't have an iron test kit that I trust, or a pure iron supplement (Seachem's Flourish Iron is Iron gluconate, which I believe is organic). I...

Dosing Phosphate

Hi everyone. I posted this in the plant forum in more detail, but thought I'd ask a larger audience:

Does anybody dose phosphates to their reefs to supplement photosynthesis? I'm referring...

Dosing Phosphate to my Reef

Hi everyone. My refugium is attached to my reef tank, sitting next to it, and I grow several ornamental algae species there to produce a nice aesthetic. I find that the algae that I keep (Ochtodes...

It sounds like there's a finite amount of water moving into your overflow as it is right now, and without drilling an equalizer hole to allow more flow into the overflow area, you'll likely continue...

It should survive. If you take it out of the water, the anemone will deflate and you shouldn't have to cut up the shroud. They melt when dying, so I'd watch for that, and obviously pull it if it does...

Not sure what you mean by 'help out'. It's more clear, but it scratches more easily. And it costs more, so I usually advise against it. Good luck, chief.

I agree that they're just fine. They'll starve to death before eating corals, especially corals with very little tissue like SPS.

My 80 gallon reef gets a marble-sized piece every night. I think it's great food, especially if you have small fish. My pair of Helfrich's firefish and my anthias really seem to like it.

Honestly, not really. The refugium can be fed by a pump going up over the side, but has to drain by gravity. That requires either a hole or a siphon overflow, and a siphon overflow is not foolproof....

Honestly, I don't believe it to be worth the time required to raise live brine shrimp- unless you are feeding something that won't eat anything else. Since very few of those animals are appropriate...

I also feed flake (in addition to frozen and other foods). I prefer Tetramin Pro, since it holds its integrity better in the water and doesn't disintigrate. I think overfeeding is a much bigger...

I have had lots of electrical equipment (powerheads, lights) put voltage into tanks while seeming to work just fine. This does not necessarily trip a GFCI, and I wouldn't say that this means your...

On 75 gallons, you shouldn't really need a calcium reactor even with SPS. An auto top-off with buffered alkalinity and periodic doses of calcium will be sufficient, and you'll have good SPS growth...

Something to consider about mail ordering live rock, especially at dirt cheap prices, is that it's going to have to be cured (usually even the ones that say "cured" on the website). Doing it right...

I have never seen or heard of blue coralline algae. So, if what you have is indeed blue coralline, I imagine it is quite uncommon. However, since you mention that it's not growing in direct light,...
