I agree than flame hawkfish is a good choice. That was a funny fish with a lot of personnality. Goby like firefish or clown goby could be great too. Or a royal gramma, a mated pair of bangai...

Humm...IMO, definitely too much. Six line wrasse is a faster and larger pod eater than the mandarin. It could be ok on a short term period, but on long term, there will not be enough pods in a 40gal...
