when a Purple Brush Gorgonian is dead, does it form a skeleton? like sps? or does it degrade and disappear in time.

i got a brown toadstool last week, put it on a top rock in medium flow (koralia #4) not directed at it.
it took a few days to show any polyp expansion but it wasnt much, just little tips showing....

i need something to remove coralline (not a kent proscraper)
the tank is 30" deep and my arms arent long enough or strong enough for the pro scrapers, credit cards, razor blades etc.
