If you want to stay on the economical end, go for a Mag5 or Mag7. They are 500 and 700gph. They are very quiet and reliable in submerged applications.

Mine loves bloodworms but wont eat anything else other than pods. He slurps them down like noodles! A little over 6 months in a 20g. tank now, healthy as can be.

Wow, you're good! I would say thats what they look like, but they dont have the large pinchers from what I can tell. It say those become elongated at some point, so maybe they arent yet. Thanks!

I would definitely change out the substrate. It sounds like a nice hard task you keep you busy! :)

You could build a canopy, or scrape the sides of the tank to keep yourself busy as well.

Dont go with the 3/4". I have a 1" on my 37g. with a mag7 return and the drain cant keep up. I have it throttled back about halfway. I would suggest 1.25 to 1.5".
