IME candy cane corals enjoy being placed in areas of moderate lighting, as well as moderate flow. Also at night they will open up and really transform when they let out their sweeper/feeding...

I've never personally kept Yumas, however I have kept Ricordeas...FWIW I hear Yumas are harder to take care of than Ricordeas.

I haven't lost one single mushroom the entire time I've had a reef tank, haha. The guts being released it normal for a mushroom when under severe stress. Just be sure you keep your water parameters...
