Yes. I use a litermeter for both. But without it, you just drip kalk as normal, and use 2 part to make up for whatever kalk can't handle.

In delbeek/sprung's Reef Aquarium Vol 3 they state that the original Berlin method was NOT barebottom but a shallow bed of crushed coral. It only went barebottom when it came to the US.
