I kept a 3-gallon with about 4 pounds of Carib live sand, and it worked great. The sand bed was about an inch and a half deep.

Re: why wear gloves? for your tank's protection from you [FYI]

Is there are data that suggests this claim is true? Fish get bristled all the time, and they don't have fingers, much less fingerprints. I suspect that corals not getting bristled is more a function...

My male black clown picked a fight with a bristleworm and got a face full of spines. He looks like an old man with a white beard, and he had a little trouble eating this morning.

Will the spines...

I think the brown jelly is a bacterial infection that can only develop if you've got too high a nutrient concentration in your tank. I saw it once when I'd been feeding pretty heavily. Some...

Curiously, I'm also a grad student in Athens, Ga, and I just moved my 3 gallon pico reef into a 12-gallon Nano Cube.

I'm in Linguistics, and my name is Stephen. I wonder if we'd have met somewhere.

Moving Rock and Corals to New Tank. Recycle?

I've moved all my live rock and corals from their small tank to a new, slightly larger one and added a couple of pieces of live rock, increasing my total live rock weight by about 15 - 20%. I was...

I have a few in my tank, and, on the rare occasions when one ends up hanging out on the acrylic, it does a super job of cleaning algae. If there were a source of them around here, I'd get a lot more.

Some types of amphipods can get quite large. I know I've got some around a centimeter in length. If you're just used to seeing millimeter-long copepods, these giants can be a bit of a surprise.
