I might do a mag 7, which at 5' of head it does 420 gph which will be about 5 times my total volume. (70g tech)
After reading Melev's sump guide it sounds about right.

Hey all, I got a glass guy cutting my baffles today. I am going to get 1/4" glass with polished edges.
The tank is 30x12x18
Do I get them cut 12" wide, or am I geting them cut a few cm short...

Many people run no skimmer and are fine, so yours off a few hours a day will be ok. The skimmer should still run fine. I turn my aqua c off for an hour to clean it every now and then, and its fine.
