yea it would make the tank not look as yellow. I run 20000k radiums on my tank with out any actinics. if you are using the actinics I would get either 10k or 15k bulbs. all the bulbs look alot...

yea that should work fine. I think 5500k bulbs are a little bit to yellow for my taste but they usually have a very good par value

if you want a high quality skimmer i wouldn't even bother looking "venturi's". Becketts, and downdrafts both work really well. but in general they need to be rather tall to work really well, also...

the HQI is going to burn the bulb at a slightly higher wattage. For example the 400w hqi ballast burns the bulb at 430w. this makes the radiums burn a little brighter, and makes their color whiter....
