i think some chemicals really affects softies (maybe becauae of their soft skin is sensitive) and treating in qt is the best bet.

my experience is, 1.too much flow- detach...

1.too much flow- detach fast -almost instantly,
2.too less/too much light - shrink then detach after a while,
3. water param off- shrink then detach after a while

i saw that "smoking" on my stressed gorgonia, it was like a white fluid(like milk) coming out of the skin,i think it is nasty coz it affected my other corals. what i did is do a large water change...

i agree with dark circa, just peeling it slowly off the rock is efeective for me. i usually do it at night when the polyps are retracted and the body is compact. GL!
