It does create a lot of heat because with the mounting legs the lights were only about 6.5" above the water. I added a cheap azoo fan to blow the surface of the water and it helped out a lot.

I used a 36" dual 150w sunpod on my 46g bow front and it worked great. Try to find one used because the current hqi bulbs that come with it kinda suck. I used phoenix 14k and my tank looked good...

I use to use the 12k reeflux's on my 150w sunpod. I didn't have a lightmeter, but it was a lot brighter than the 14k's it came with.
