mod on my maxi jet

not that big of a mod, but i decided to cut the nozzle off the outlet of my maxijet, if only i knew how to get the thing to alternate flow direction

Jeremy Blaze 11/20/2005 09:01 PM

If you put it on a wave maker or timer, it will switch directions when it turns back on.

maxvan1 11/20/2005 09:01 PM

Sometime it starts up with the, thing, spinning left and sometimes it goes right. so if it spins right the flow will go out one way, and if it spins left it will go out the other way. So, you put it on a timer so it starts and stops every 10 seconds or so, and then it will either spray right, or left.

Note:Sorry for bad spelling and such.

Blah posted at the same time.;) oh well..

go to melev's web page and he takes it a step farther with holes in the bottom. It makes some serious flow. Feels like it doubles it.

fishking 11/20/2005 09:27 PM

thanx guys, never knew that, i though the only way was if you unplugged it and put the prongs in the opposite ways, that seems like the only way it would work, cause doesnt a timer only turn the power on and off, not alternate which way the impeller spins

j_a_wickstrom 11/20/2005 09:33 PM

The impeller doesn't spin a set way. No matter how many times you plug it in you have a 50/50 chance of it going left. So, if you set it up on a timer it might go left, left, right, left, right, right, right...

fishking 11/20/2005 09:57 PM

ok, thanx every one for you input, if anyone wants to see how it looks tell me

DrBDC 11/20/2005 10:04 PM

Here's some pics on melev's page.

well this blows, one of the suction cups on my maxi poped of and the maxi was pointed wdown so i blwe the crap out of my sand and now my tank is murky, good thing for my mom

fishking 11/20/2005 10:26 PM

doh, stupid me i totaly forgot i could rotate i the nozzle so the stream could go straigh, i jsut did that and i can tell the difference with the flow, this mod is great the flow is as powerful as it was before

clown'n 11/20/2005 10:41 PM

I had the same problem with the suction cups on my maxi jet, a quick trip to the craft store for larger suction cups fixed that problem :)

j_a_wickstrom 11/20/2005 11:20 PM

Did you glue them on? If so, what kind of glue? I've tried using suction cuos on other DIYs and they came off despite using marine epoxy.

fishking 11/20/2005 11:23 PM

i wanna make sumthing for it so i can hang the maxi off the side of my tank, the hanging brackets usually in the packaging is too small for my tanks rim

Stinekraus 11/21/2005 01:06 AM

There is a place on the internet that makes maxi jet hangers.

Stinekraus 11/21/2005 01:28 AM

DrBDC, Thanks for the link, I could'nt figure out what you was talking about till I seen the pics.

Rendos 11/21/2005 10:09 AM

You could easily make this...

nice

VaderWS6 11/21/2005 11:32 PM

I just hang mine with the provided maxi-jet hangers, and lower them to different levels with clear zip ties. Works perfectly.

fishking 11/22/2005 01:22 AM

better flow, and i could actually see sum difference

doody 11/22/2005 01:42 AM

I can't tell in the pic, but where do you cut? Does this dispurse the flow better?

I cut the nozzle off one of mine, and it shoots left, right, and straight. I don't want to do it to all of my maxi-jets since the flow would be a little too wacky.

pasenah 11/22/2005 03:06 AM

this looks good but im worried about things going in the hole,if you see what i mean.do you think thats not a problem?

cheers

Last week I was running a Seio 820, and 3 MJ1200s in my 30 cube. I saw the MJ mods on a local forum and did them on 2 of the MJs. The results were simply stunning. I both cut off the nozzle and drilled holes in the bottom.

The amount of water these things push now is much greater than before. Instead of them moving the water in a corner then cause currents throughout the tank. After seeing the results I removed the 3rd MJ as it was no longer needed.
