sweet fish love the blond naso, did you have the cleaner shrimp in before you added your more aggressive fish or the other way around and nice pics by the way

the real fishman 05/30/2005 11:28 AM

dehoch, nice tank. i love your trigger and tang.

Andrew 05/30/2005 12:57 PM

sweet tanks people.

dhoch 05/30/2005 03:06 PM

First thanks everyone for the comments...

The eel was in first then 3 of the shrimp (added 1 by 1 at various times)... 2 cleaners and 1 fire.

Then I added the blue chin (he's only been in the tank 1 month).

The last fire shrimp has only been in a couple of weeks (but he took to the eel almost right away).

how has your trigger behaved around your clam

dhoch 05/30/2005 05:33 PM

Trigger has show no interest in either clam....

Really he has been a model reef inhabitant... (the only fracas he causes is ocassionaly he gets to close the anemone and the oscelaris clown nips him on the tail which usually sends him running).

sweet, thanks for sharing

dhoch 05/30/2005 06:01 PM

Carson,

Not a problem... I was thinking if the trigger had shown any aggression towards anything in the tank and I was reminded of last weekend:

It's been my habit to take the flake that I feed as a staple and put it in my fingers and dip it under the water and let go for the fish to get it...The trigger likes to find the biggest pieces and go for them first... We'll last weekend he decided my finger was the biggest piece and he grabbed hold... I jerked him out of the water before he let go and he splashed back down into the tank... I ended up with four little blood spots on my finger where he bit me (now I take tank water and the flake and mix it together in a little glass cup and pour it in).

 pretty funny

spamin76 05/31/2005 10:33 AM

Come on man, blue throats aren't aggressive!!!

I had a sargassum trigger for a while :( but he died of ich.

My sister keeps a flame hawk in her reef.

Tell that to my finger. :)

Dave

spamin76 05/31/2005 12:00 PM

Did he bite you?

My just used to spit water at me whenever I walked by... he was getting about 3-4" of clearance with his jet - he spit so hard it pushed him backwards in the water.

dhoch 05/31/2005 12:17 PM

Spamin,

You obviously didn't read the entire thread... look about 4-6 posts up...

But to answer your question yes, he did...

He hasn't spit water at me yet... allthough he gives me the eye whenever I lift the hood.

Dave

spamin76 05/31/2005 12:59 PM

No sorry - I just read the first post and your first response - I didn't read the center of the thread.

Yes - I got the eye -

mine actually did try to bit me - but I was trying to catch him - he didn't try to bite me until I had made several failed attempts to catch him - I think my repeated efforts just P#$$ed him off. After about 6-7 attempts of cupping him in my hand, or gently coaxing him into a net he decided he didn't like me and he went after me - he started dashing straight at me and snapping. I was transeferring him to a different tank to quarantine him so I could dose him with copper. I gave him a fresh water dip and I think that really p#$$ed him off!

spamin76 05/31/2005 01:00 PM

I confess - I only "read" the pictures :D

john37 05/31/2005 01:17 PM

nice blue throat.

spamin76 05/31/2005 02:20 PM

They are wonderful fish. Not as pretty as crosshatches, but pretty darn close.

Absint Reefer 05/31/2005 02:24 PM

flame hawks aren't aggressive

Wolverine 05/31/2005 08:52 PM

The June issue of AFM has an article by Scott Michael on aggressive reef safe fish (depending on your definition of the term).
