You've got to see this!!

Ok,

So I have a friend who's a bit crazy. He had a little rock crab that was annoying him. It would come out and knock over corals, mess with the fish, and was just a menace.

He tried and tried but couldn't get it out of this tank. One day he got fed up and did this:

Took a fire cracker and sealed it with hot glue. Then he rigged an electric fuse with some phone cord and a 9v battery.

Check out this video below:

I was told that after the cave exploded, the crab walked out with only 3 legs. Then the cleaner shimp came in and started eating him.

I guess that's one way of taking care of a pest! hahaha

Don't know what to say? I'll have to sleep on this one.

Dubbin1 11/03/2004 12:28 AM

LOL The plus side to this is that it shows a new way to aquascape :) Hmm now what did I do with those M80's I had as a kid :blown:

nemofish2217 11/03/2004 01:07 AM

well, that was disturbing....now, let me go love on my crabs because i never knew how much they meant to me as i do now...hmm

cantseered 11/03/2004 01:14 AM

hehe. that crab killed 3 fish and 2 peppermint shrimps. It also picked on a stylophora until it started bleaching. If you ask me, it deserved death. :) I had a mantis shrimp that I couldn't get rid of. It took down a whole school of chromis and a flame angel. If I knew of this solution back then, I wouldn't have hesitated to use it. :)

you know what would have been really funny?

If you had blown the front glass out of your tank and been mopping for the next 3 hours...that would have been funny.

andycook 11/03/2004 01:30 AM

I don't share the humor in the post though I do find Thomas B.'s idea amusing.

Freed 11/03/2004 01:30 AM

Could very well have blown the glass out and killed more than the crab, water doesn't compress so the shock wave could have done more damage than you can imagine if the cracker were bigger and in the right spot.

reefez 11/03/2004 01:47 AM

Pretty big gamble. I am glad to see the crab problem is fixed though :)

gatohoser 11/03/2004 02:11 AM

You guys are seriously out of your minds. Seriously...

Aquabucket 11/03/2004 02:25 AM

I don't care what anyone thinks but that vid made my day.

I have a crab problem in one of my display tanks at work. I don't I have the guts to try the "firecracker" method though.

cantseered 11/03/2004 02:27 AM

well apparently the cracker wasn’t larger and in th right place.. oh and no.. not glass but acrylic hehehe

jun41 11/03/2004 02:55 AM

How old are you guys? I don't mean it as a bad thing. I'm just curious. In all my time here I've never seen anything as outrageous as this.

Any pictures of the victim?

drchimo 11/03/2004 02:55 AM

now, if you would have caught the crab by hand and sent it to me- i might have showed you some skin- but blowing it up- come on now, that doesnt even get a peek

reefsrus 11/03/2004 03:03 AM

Thats was pretty crazy,

Ive seen drchimo.. total hottie!:)

drchimo 11/03/2004 03:06 AM

;)

Freed 11/03/2004 03:16 AM

drchimo, I just caught an acro crab last night and put it in my QT. Do you want it? I don't know what else to do with it. I can't put it back in my main tank. LMK

Razing Kane 11/03/2004 03:24 AM

very creative, and ballsy too!

cantseered 11/03/2004 03:33 AM

It's funny how some of you people get so upset about the vid. :) Can't wait for you guys to get a mantis shrimp or some flat worms :)

I've been keeping reef tanks for 9 years now.. nothing's worse than a pest you can't get out.. hehe

BTW Here's some pics of my tank:

Cool, what do you do for a living to afford something like that?

cantseered 11/03/2004 04:13 AM

I own a Internet consulting firm - www.etrinitee.com

I also design and build full systems for local fish stores and resturants.. design and build commercial grade calcium and kalk reactors..

krowleey 11/03/2004 04:19 AM

personally i thought that was great lol i love to blow stuff up.

ol'salty 11/03/2004 05:21 AM

Just curious as to what that powder residue is going to do to the rest of the tank inhabitants?

cantseered 11/03/2004 05:29 AM

According to my friend, nothing happen to his tank. His tank seems perfectly fine to me:)

StinkyNappy 11/03/2004 06:17 AM
