white streak on tang? what is it?

Ok, this is my fault for not doing this sooner. But last night I was on the net looking to order a battery backup air pump, and messed around and didn't order one. Next thing I know there is a very bad storm come through, overturning trees and such (in S. IN.) So needless to say the electricity went out for 2 hours, and I had no back up.

I have a yellow tang, fasle perc, six line wrasse, firefish, and twin spot goby. All of them seemed fine, but when shinging a flashlight into the tank to check on them, I notcied I white stripe down the side of the tang on both sides, that had never been there before. I tried using a turkey bastor and squirt water around in the tank, I don't know if that done any good or not. But the other fish all seemed fine. Today the tang still has the white stripes, but he seems fine, and is eating well. Any idea what is wrong with him and what I can do about it?
I'm on my way now to order a back up air pump.

Thanks for any help

Yellow tangs do have horizontal white stripes on both sides of their body. Some are just more noticable than others. As long as he's eating and acting normal don't worry.

Do you have a picture?

Yeah thats what the stripe looks like, only a little whiter. I could have sworn I've never seen it until the power went out.

It's natural. I freaked out the 1st time I saw it on my tang.

i see the same stripe on my tang every night, it also seems to be darker arond the stripe, almost brown. i think it has something to do with the tank being dark, but that is as far as my knowledge goes on the subject, HTH

If its a single wide what line on each side of the fish.....if so then it would be the lateral line....a sensory organ for fish.......

My Tang looks the same when the lights first go on in the AM

You probably shouldn't shine a flashlight into the tank, might spoke out the inhabitants.
