125g setup...the wall.....shook...

The wall had stood for over 50 years, it was straight & true. It had withstood countless owners, and then Scuba Dave entered the house, and the wall was concerned. A measuring tape appeared...and a sawzall...and the wall trembled in fear....

I'm going to document this from start to finish with pictures
Friday the wall comes down......
This is before......

The fish room sink area...already installed, gotta luv it..

opposite the sink area, is an outside patio, with an open area underneath, encased in concrete. Perfect spot to put a generator - already soundproof. AND the previous owner left a 50' power cable Genpack hookup!!! Woo Hooo!!

Fish sump area + frag tank..backs up to the sink, behind the other wall is the 200a main panel. I'm going to run a 100a subpanel for the generator hookup

Is it going to be auto start?

I bought a 5k generator before Y2k, just in case. It's not auto-start, but I hope to upgrade at some point in the future.
Mikrok, not enough wall to fit that tank, maybe when the addition goes on:D
Yeah, I'm psyched to be finally starting on tank setup. Plus finding this house & the layout is great. I'm going to have a busy winter!
I'm going to try to create a page on our web page http://MassBaydivers.com to document my progress
Thanx all

mikrok 11/27/2003 06:18 PM

Dave, I also have a 125 in the wall, I installed mirrors at 45 degree angles to the rear corners of the tank, from the display side you can view and clean all three sides of the tank. Here is a picture>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>GEBC

Here is a side view

Scuba_Dave 11/27/2003 09:05 PM

Yes I saw your tank pics in another thread, very nice idea. I had originally hoped for a small fish room on one end of the tank, but no room. So the tank will be viewable from both long sides, and one short side. Due to the layout no mirrors possible, but I did have that in mind if fish room ended up on one of the long sides.
No work accomplished today, other then stuffing myself & starting to move stuff to new house.
Sump & pumps & odds & end sare there, hoping to move tank & plumbing stuff in tomorrow.
Tomorrow I'm cutting the wall open & see what's in there (hopefully nothing). There isn't any electric (or wall), on 2nd floor above this area. Only 1 outlet in the wall, which I forgot to check, but hoping it feeds from the basement

greeneyedblackcat 11/27/2003 09:21 PM

in wall tank

Dave, I cant wait to see the pictures, Inwalls rock!!!

RobboT 11/28/2003 08:58 PM

I smell a great newsletter article Dave!! Thanks for offering to contribute ;)

Scott S 11/28/2003 09:29 PM

Scuba Dave,

Sounds similar to my set up. Tank sits in the office/den and is framed out in the living room. I put in a center cut overflow so that it is viewable from both sides. Also had an extra hole cut in the overflow for wires for the lighting, fans, and powerheads that are in the tank.

Good Luck

and the wall was greatly diminished in size....and Scuba Dave was pleased

Phase I done, 1st pic is the wall open from one side. Just my luck, the only outlet feeds from the top

wall opened up, dang electric...bottom frame installed - a 2x6 flat ways across all of the studs
You know your wife loves you , when you buy a new house, and the 1st thing you do is rip a wall apart while she cleans & stocks the fridge with beer:D

Scuba_Dave 11/28/2003 10:53 PM

all framed up, header in place (2) 2x8's w/plywood sandwiched in between. Enough room to thread electic & then tuck it up out of the way

Oops, the picture didn't post...
