UniSeals in a Brute sound feasible?
 

Been thinking about plumbing my Brute using 1/2" UniSeals instead of conventional bulkheads.
These would be mounted in the sidewall, near the top.
Similar to the layout of jdiecks Brute.

Brutes are not all that thick and UniSeals are pretty stiff to be using in such a flimsy material like used to make Brutes.
Anyone have any learned opinion if this will give good leak-free seals?

I use a 3/4" tank bulkhead to a ball valve from Tractor Supply at the bottom of mine for easy emptying into 5 gallon pales. Bout 5 bucks and worth every penny. Just the normal twist on and has a big rubber washer for the inside which squeezes for a nice seal. It'd be worth it for you since the uniseals are +/- the same price...

I considered what you've described, but I already have a bunch of UniSeals on hand and would like to use them if at all feasible.

I have never tried a uniseal in a brute, but I don't think it will work that well, just because of how flexable the sides are. But give it a try and let us know if it works for you. If it doesn't you can always install a bulkhead later.

I've done exactly that to hold the float switch bracket. Worked great.

You can use some fine sandpaper to clean up any jagged edges left from the holesaw.

Also, with Unis, if they are a bit loose, wrap them with teflon and you're good to go:D Don't ask how I learned that trick:rolleyes:

Yeah, I think it would work as long as you had a clean hole. Since there's so little surface area to seal against, you want it as clean of a cut as possible.

i use uniseals on my bucket fuges and they work great EXCEPT when you move the pipe...for me, they tend to leak if there movement with the pipes going in them...eg having a ball valve, adjusting angles etc.

i love uniseals because they are very easy to place and esp with 5g buckets...can be placed where a bulkhead might have trouble sealing effectively.

for a brute container? never know 'til you try. i would suggest an outside leak 'test' before hauling that sucker around for water changes (i presume). ;)
