UV Sterilizer

Hi,

I have a 95 gallon reef system that has been running quite nicely with coral for about 8 months. I would like to introduce some fish into the tank. My LFS rep (whose opinion I value) recommends a UV sterilizer.

I have searched the subject and conclude that there is no definitive "Yes" or "No". Might anyone have some information or experiences that would help me come to a decision?

Thanks, Fred

IMO if you use a quarantine tank for everything you purchase including coral, and observe for 4-6 weeks then you can keep your main tank disease free.
A quarantine tank is alot cheaper then a uv sterilzer.

And if disease is your concern, UV has been shown repeatedly to have no effect on recirculating systems anyway.

Ozone !

Not UV.

uv's my have some affect on algae---but by far you should be congratuated for keeping your phosphates and nitrates at extremely low levels.
again for the hefty price tag on uv's for algae control --you are best to handle phosphates and nitrates in your tank by other less costly methods.

I removed my uv sterilzer about six months ago and
my water is extremely clear for 70 bucks with these:

I also run two of these reactors. One with phosban and one with de-nitrate at the moment. I also run a turbo twist UV at 20 GPH to kill any ich that may arise.
