New DIY In-Tank Frag Shelf

Built it myself in my 90, its up high so you dont even notice it at the normal viewing angle. I used CPVC (hot water thin pvc), egg crate, and no glue. Im growin soooooooo many frags its awesome!Check it out!

That is a wicked little set-up :).

jadeguppy 11/02/2007 07:21 PM

I like it too. May give it a try. What light do you have on the system?

rabidcrab 11/04/2007 12:42 PM

aquactinics 7 bulb HO

rabidcrab 11/04/2007 12:43 PM

it looks alot more blue than it really is. its nicely balanced, and the colors are insane.. im not very skilled in aquarium photography yet, but ill take better ones soon!!

Sweet shelf,great design,thanks for sharing.

njdevilsfan 11/23/2007 02:05 AM

may i suggest using your left over eggcrate and build a little 2 square high fence around the whole thing
i have had the same set up for a long time and stupid snails were always knocking frags down
so i built a fence with zip ties and no more probs

Engine 7 11/27/2007 07:47 PM

I am going to do the same thing soon. Thanks for the inspiration :)

DurTBear 11/30/2007 07:21 PM

Great minds think alike! I made a similar rack solely out of eggcrate with walls to prevent the snails from knocking things over. This is an old picture since I now have one on both sides of the tank.

skeeter-doc 12/01/2007 09:19 AM

looks good rapid! How long have you had your sea apple though?

mikeandjenn99 01/06/2008 02:24 PM

Awesome job!

JediReefer 01/06/2008 02:27 PM

Nice, can you get this PVC at HD?

rabidcrab 01/06/2008 02:42 PM

***UPDATE***
Im now farming blue xenia on my shelf, pics will come soon. I also am having alot of luck attaching mushrooms to rock on my shelf, ill take pics of that also.
Also all my zoo's are growing onto the pvc, its very cool looking now :} they even grow on the bottom so if you look from the bottom you can see its covered with zoos!

JediReefer------>> yes, just ask for hot water pvc, or cpvc

skeeter-doc---->> about 9+ months now, i feed my tank plankton at nighttime when all the hard corals are feeding... its beem a very successful technique.. i have 3 different species of apples.. i just need a royal apple (not gonna happen lol)

DurTBear------->> now i know why you did this, its really annoying for animals to knock stuff down, i think im just gonna buy a seperate frag tank and use that, that way i can remove this from my display

SHARKBAITNC 01/06/2008 02:57 PM

That's cool great idea do you mind if I borrow it :)

I feel nice ;)

sbwood007 01/06/2008 06:46 PM

Very cool idea!

wigo 01/06/2008 10:42 PM

here is an idea. Take an extra pump and plumb the pvc and drill holes in the holder and now you have current all around the frags.

rabidcrab 01/06/2008 11:58 PM

wigo----->> thats kinda a sweet idea actually. thats like super high end lol. hm.
