Direct Calcium Hydroxide

I remember reading this somewhere but I cant find it anymore...

Why is it bad to add small amounts of calcium hydroxide directly into our sump?

Why must it be dissolve in freshwater first?

Can anyone give me some insight? =)

Thanks

it'll precipitate if mixed with saltwater.

Precipitation is one possible problem. Also, undissolved lime might be pumped into the display tank, which could be unpleasant for any organism that gets hit. A lime slurry is safer. Also, not letting mixing the lime and allowing it to settle puts more impurities into the tank.
