How to setup Bermuda Rogue Wave
 

I am a complete noobie when it comes to protein skimmers. I purchased the Bermuda Aquatics Rogue Wave HOB for 250 with the RIO 1100 pump and free shipping. The skimmer did not come with directions and I don't know how to set it up. Can anyone help me?

INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE BERMUDA ROGUE

1. Remove hang on skimmer and bio-balls from box.
2. Remove protective packaging.
3. Place Hang-on skimmer on the back of the tank.
4. Use a reputable pump rated for 350 gallons per hour at 0 feet .
5. Plumb your pump of choice to the skimmer using ¾" ID vinyl tubing.
6. Turn gate dial clockwise and open prior to turning on the pump.
7. Place the bio-balls in the side chamber where the water returns to the tank.
8. (Bio-balls are offered as a form of bio-filtration and help to remove small bubbles from returning to tank.)
9. Adjust the water level in the skimmer by turning the dial counter clockwise.
10. The skimmer could take between 1 minute and 72 hours to break in, depending on the conditions of your tank.
11. Once the skimmer has been adjusted to accommodate your tank size and pump, the water level will no longer need to be adjusted.

In step 5, where do you get 3/4" ID vinyl tubing and where do you connect the tubing to on the skimmer?

In step 6, where is the gate dial?

In step 11, you say it will no longer need to be adjusted once broken in, is there a chance the skimmer could overflow on me in the middle of the night?

actuallu i have never used this skimmer or heard about this skimmer before. just got the instructions off the website.

the vinal tubing you can get at home depot or lowes.

not sure where the gate valve is cause i have never seen the skimmer

and like most skimmers they don't need to be adjusted after they are broke in. but certain things can make them go crazy and overflow. (chemicals, foods, your hands if not cleaned before putting them into the tank, ect.)

The gate valve is the plastic disc on the side with the bioballs. If you turn it they nylon bole goes up and down depending on the direction. To close you rotate the disc away from the tank to open you rotate it towards the tank. I have mine on a 49g system with the same pump. My nylon bolt is just an inch or two shy of the height of the collection cup,d

There is a little tube that comes out of the side of the collecting tray (i guess thats what it is, at the top of skimmer). Where should this connect to? This thing is so confusing I don't even know where to start...

Mine came with a plastic nut or bolt on the inside of the collection cup and it is just loose going wherever. Do you know where this is supposed to go or be attached to?

I'll take some pics in the morning. I went out and bought 3/4" vinyl tubing and accidentally bought outer diamter, doh!

Mine came with a predrilled collection cup as well. I need to buy some tubing and run it to a bucket so it didnt just empty back into the tank That little black nut should would screw into that hole to plug it up if you dont have a tube or bucket to collect the waist in.

Im not home right now so I can't check, but i could swear that the nut didn't fit on the drilled overflow piece. Do you know what size hose I would need to have it drain into a bucket. Do you keep your pump underneath the tank? And lastly, how do you keep the hose on the pipes, will it stay on itself or do you need some kind of clamp? Thanks again.

the hoses should stay on itself. As for the black nut, I think you take out the elbow and screw in the nut. The tubing to go to a bucket is 3/8" ID 1/2"OD

do you mean 3/4" ID and 1/2" OD?

No, what you have written is impossible. You have an ID bigger than the OD. I got my measurements right off the outside of the tube.

Ok yea I read your post wrong.. sorry. I'm gonna go pick up the tubing now, and the black bolt did screw into the collection cup.

Sorry, one more question. Does the Rio 1100 have to be in the water, or does it stay outside of the tank?

I believe it has to be in the water.
