Is silicon grease toxic to reef tanks?
Following the instructions for the Kent Phos Reactor, I just tried using silicon grease on the o-ring...
Anyone know if silicon grease is toxic to reef inhabitants? There were no warnings on the documentation about this, but I washed my hands really well afterwards. I assume there is some reason why there is "aquarium-safe" silicone and wonder if this gel might have the same issue. -tE |
Food safe silicone grease will be fine to use for things like o-rings.

This silicon grease came with an underwater camera I use when I'm snorkeling... It says "Do Not Eat" on it and doesn't say more than that... probably the wrong type, huh?

Home Deopt, Lowes, Ace Hardware, etc should all have it in the plumbing department. The stuff you used is likely the same.

pentair aquatics/lifegaurd makes a silicone lube. you can also get safe teflon lube at a pool/spa supply store under 'magic lube' or 'jack's 327'.
|
Doh! Never even thought about pool and spa suppliers.
