Lighting Requirements

I'm looking to put together a 40 gallon prop tank and I was wondering what kind of lighting and how much as far as wattage I would need. I want to do hard corals, which would require more light but how much? And I also have some softies in my nano right now. Would it be bad to frag them in the same 40?

I'm also setting up a 40 breeder frag tank with stoney corals. I haven't decided between t5's a MH 150. Anything less than that will not promote growth.

Well the guy at my LFS is going to hook me up with metal halides, but I don't want to buy something thats too big for what I'm going to use it for. cwklinge, I would love some advice on setup if you wouldn't mind! =)
