Wow. Now I remember why I always like being in this subforum. You don't get to see that kind of pictures very often.

And can you explain more from the term "one polyp"? Do you just frag the tip of a sps? Or just a piece containing 1 polyp extension?

Bebo77 09/28/2007 10:35 AM

not only do you have lots of frags.. but you have amazing colors as well....

mikekman 09/28/2007 11:56 AM

WOW!!!! Very nice setup, looks fantastic! Please post more pictures if you can.

NorthernCF 09/28/2007 01:07 PM

Machado, could you or someone please do me the honor of translating those amounts into gallons please??
Just divide by 4, or 3.96 if you're really anal. :)

otolith 09/28/2007 01:47 PM

Machado,
Amazing setup! That must have taken a LOT of work to get to that point. Congratulations on your success.

redox 09/28/2007 05:44 PM

this is awsome. How do you keep the eggcrate so clean? and have you figured out coral warfare?

vitor pestana 09/28/2007 07:23 PM

Nice work Machado!!!

Keep up the god work

!!!!!!Wow¡¡¡¡¡

What a piece of coral garden. Congratulatios. You are a professional coral propagator. ¿How many coral frags in your system?
This are the only ATI Tubes I use:

I Combine:
Maternity - 60% Blue Special with 40 % Blue Plus (to enhance coral growing)
Nursery - 50% Blue Special with 40 % Blue Plus
Day Care - 50% Blue Special with 40 % Blue Plus

That is truly amazing setup and blows away anything i have seen on this site before. It sounds like you are a true scholar in the work of coral prop and with efforts like you have make do nothing but help keep the natural reefs where they belong.

I think it is freekin great, that many less corals that need to be ripped from our oceans
Tank you for your kind words.

That is true, this is a god way to avoid over colecting corals from theyre natural habitats to tsustain the aquarium hobbies.

I gladly awnser to all questions.

jessp 09/28/2007 08:03 PM

what are monthly costs of running a system like that. how long has it been running, what are some problems you encounter?

Please show pics of your display tank, that thing looks awesome as well.

Please show from start to finish how you frag your corals. Are the flower plugs filled w/ cement or any filler?

lots of questions, i think everyone is in awwe right now.

jessp 09/28/2007 08:04 PM

and even if this was commercial this is still something that is fascinating to all RC members.

Please expand on your lighting system. What sort, how many, wattage, etc. of the T5s you are using.
Hello jerryz,

I only use T5 tubes in all tanks, including algae filters and mangs.
About wattage:

Maternity: 4 Blue Special 80W + T5 4 Blue Plus 80W = 640W

Nursery: 3 Blue Special 80W + T5 3 Blue Plus 80W = 480W

Day-care: 5 Blue Special 80W + T5 5 Blue Plus 80W = 800W

Mangroves tank: 4 Sunpro 54W= 216W

Algae filter: 2 Sunpro 54W= 108W

It depends on the size of the radial or axial polyps esclerites.

If the esclerite is prominent to allow its collect, it is possible to remove it. In corals like Acropora multiacuta, for exemple, seen in this pic below, is possible to do it.

Other cases, with less prominent esclerits, you need to collect more than one polyp to propagate.

Of course this metode has high associated costs and is only recommended for rare or expensive colonys.

Definately the best looking prop systems I personally(and most of us) have seen. The colors are outstanding, and all from T5s. Very Impressive!! I may be in Portugal(Chaves)next year to visit the inlaws, are you giving any tours? :) Keep up the great work!!

armagedon48 09/29/2007 12:07 AM

amazing. i absolutely am amazed at the colors you have.

RRodrigues 09/29/2007 06:18 AM

Hi Machado,

Sweet system you've got there. I must visit you soon.

Why did you choose T5 over MH?

Do you have live rock in the system?

Why didn't you use any substrate in the tanks?

Congratulation, that is really amazing!

Maximiliun 09/29/2007 09:42 AM

HI MACHADO,

Congratulations for you briliant work that Denadai coud see live by her self and expose for us at IPAQ (www.ipaq.com.br).

Same question: What about Rhizoporas ... do you really thing they are a great improvement in your system ?

See ya,

MAX
