I thought those were illegal to keep? I've always wanted one. :sad1: Beautiful birds.

You have to very strictly monitored state and Federal licenses which he has had for 35 years !

Pernelf 01/08/2008 02:17 AM

How many does he have there?

UH_OH_5_OH 01/08/2008 05:51 AM

He has a total of 36 birds right now with 5 not currently in breeding chambers. They truly are amazing to watch fly !!!!

Altpers0na 01/08/2008 08:31 AM

o.0 lovely animals... how many gallons to keep one?

Orchids 01/08/2008 10:34 AM

Stunning birds. Raptors are amazing animals to watch. Falcons are my favorites, although the nesting pair of bald eagles that regularly fly above my house are nice.

Awesome! Just watched the duck hunting one. How exactly do you go duck hunting? Do you flush the ducks for the falcons?

ACBlinky 01/11/2008 12:54 AM

WOW, those are stunning birds. I've been interested in falconry for a while, reading about it a bit, and hope some day I can spend a day with someone who has a falcon, to see what it's like -- it's doubtful I will ever be able to do more than that, but I can dream.

You mentioned that he breeds them, have you got any pictures of the babies, parents caring for them, etc? Not sure about anyone else, but I'd find that fascinating -- I can understand if the breeding area is off-limits though, I know that you have to be really careful about exposing them to germs and things (I worked in a pet store at one time and had to go through a whole routine of sterilizing my hands, changing clothes etc. before I could go see the baby parrots; I assume all birds are similarly delicate). :)

For Peregrine Falcon lovers, I can't recommend highly enough reviewing the video footage from the 2007 nesting season of a pair of Peregrines atop city hall in San Jose - http://www2.ucsc.edu/scpbrg/falconcameraSJ.htm. I was glued to the webcam as often as possible over the season - seeing hatching, feeding of the babies and the up-close view of those gorgeous birds. There is every reason to believe that the same pair will use the same spot again this spring and that the Santa Cruz Predatory Bird Research Group will once again have the webcam on. Not only are these birds beautiful, but they help keep the city's pidgeon population in check! :)

I've never heard of that. Was the pet store you worked in a big box chain store (Petco, Petsmart, Uncle Bills etc..)? They usually have those precautions in place because there are a lot of people coming in and out, and they don't want someone tracking Psitaccosis in from outside sources.
