KolorScape Sand?

So at Home Depot, there are 2 different bags of the KolorScape sand. One is blue which specifically says on it "Do Not Use For Aquariums." The bag is .4 Cu.Ft.
The other bag is a purple bag. The purple bag is called Leveling Sand, Step 2. It says Arena Niveladora. Use as a 1" base under pavers and patio stones. The bag is .5 Cu.Ft.

I have seen some talk about using "KolorScape" sand in some forums on here. Do you know if the purple bag is OK to use for a dsb in a large system?

Thanks for any help,
Jeff

just because it says for not aquarium use don't mean it isn't safe. look at southdown sand it says the same thing but is safe.

also the Pavestone pulverized limestone can be found at lowes or HD

I used the blue bag that says "not for aquariums".

No problems.

I also use the blue bag...Not only for DSB but for cultured LR and Frag Plugs. Been doing it for years without a problem. When in doubt use the vinegar test.

Multiple threads on this topic...

It appears that southdown was bought out and the new product is by Kolorscape, the blue bag. It also appears that over the last several years they have been phasing out the use of aragonite based sand and switching to a silica based sand. The blue bags from all the home depots in my area do not pass the vinegar test.

You may also consider that $50 or so for 60 lb of aragamax isn't really that much to spend compared to the overall aquarium costs and you'll certainly have no worries that way.

What about the purple bag?

conchead 12/30/2006 12:03 PM

I just used the sand inside the bag, throw the bag away :)

No pavestone pulverized limestone at Lowes or Home Depot in my area that I could find.

Anyone have a picture of a bag of this?

dmbnpj 01/01/2007 01:30 PM

I found a picture after googling for a while. It looks like a brown bag. I cant find this stuff anywhere(Lowes/Home Depot dont carry this product in Raleigh, North Carolina). Anyone know a specific place to get this stuff?
