Berghia nudibranches

What is the story on these... will they eat majanos and are they really reef safe?

Reefdiver72 01/08/2008 05:57 PM

Everything I have read says they are reef save the only think they eat is aptasia I would like to find a couple they are kind of espensive if you dont find a few people that needs some. If you order some let me know I would go in with you.

Here is the cheapest place online I can find Berghia Nudibranch (Juvenile).. and they are ON SALE now for $18.99 at reefscavengers.com

Hmmmm .. here is another place that sells them... under "MISC>>"

"Aiptasia Eating Nudibranch
Aedidella stephanieae
formerly Berghia verrucicornis

juveniles $20.00 *"

cl2ysta1 01/08/2008 06:42 PM

someone is selling these pretty cheap in the livestock selling forum right now. cheaper than can be got online. i think its 10 bux a piece. plus shipping

zaireguy 01/08/2008 07:08 PM

maybe a group buy?

uztaryn 01/08/2008 07:16 PM

Anyone know if they will eat the majanos as well? They are very similar to the aptasia. Also if they run out of aptasia and majanos will they eat regular BTA's?

As for a group buy....I probably need 9+ for my system so if other would like. I am not really interested in running a group buy though.

Let me know for sure.

cl2ysta1 01/08/2008 07:18 PM

they will not. They ONLY eat aptasia. which means unless you have a moderate to heavy aptasia problem this is not a good solution for you. I would try kalking them.

after your aptasia is gone they die. but the nice thing is they will completely erradicate your aptasia. the links that were posted will give you more info on them.

ngilbert 01/08/2008 07:45 PM

These sound VERY interesting.
I'll see if my husband wants to run a group buy. Can't promise anything but boy am I tired of aiptasia!

dew2loud1 01/08/2008 08:19 PM

its best to actually remove rocks with aiptasia and put them in a 10 gallon with these guys until they start breeding which is very prolific then place the juveniles in your tank, I've been considering this for a while... Problem is its like the whole seahare dilemna, once your problem is cured dead berghia,

Good news always enough people that have aiptasia problems, I still remember when crystal said over a year ago, kill that its bad and I said oh its just one..........

I'll run the group buy if we have enough interest,
pm or post who you find as the cheapest and we'll go from there.

ngilbert 01/08/2008 08:25 PM

The link to the berghia.net/marketplace had them for 13.5 apiece if there were 24 bought. I believe they said ship and handling was free with 30. Tried to find the link on cora that had them for $10 but couldn't. Probably just falling asleep at my computer while aimlessly scrolling...

The US dollar sucks now or this place would be really cheap....

icu2 01/08/2008 08:57 PM

I bought some from him today (guy in the selling forum). They are alive and healthy. Adults had eggs and are starting to hatch when I put them in. $14.50 each from him w/ shipping.

bower23 01/08/2008 09:25 PM

zaireguy 01/08/2008 10:58 PM

szwab 01/09/2008 12:45 AM

dew2loud1 01/09/2008 12:51 AM

well it looks like we have about enough to go with the 9.99 each and free shipping,
we need 25,
I'll call tomorrow and make sure on the size etc....

So I'll put my self down for at least 5, my clowns won't breed so i'll breed nudibranchs

Just list your name and how many you want

uztaryn 01/09/2008 01:05 AM

if we are getting them for 9.99 each I will take 10. I will just see what I can get them to eat.

szwab 01/09/2008 01:51 AM

szwab - 2

dgunn 01/09/2008 02:05 AM

I'll take 2 please.

TacoKing 01/09/2008 08:32 AM

I'm in for a couple adults. Say 5.

CaveManNOhio 01/09/2008 09:39 AM

We did a group buy a while back on them. They are sweet, but also very sensitive. I put 12 in my 125 and never saw them again after that day. I think they were eaten by the aptaisia.
I think for the most part it was that way across the board for most that got in on it. Although there were also a couple that had good success with them also I think. The other thing to keep in mind once all the aptaisia are gone, if you don't supply a food source they will die.

cl2ysta1 01/09/2008 09:57 AM

i think the 10 gallon is a good idea. just transfer the rocks into it that need it. the problem with them being in a big tank i was reading is sometimes they wander so long and die before they have an aptasia
