how was your tank temp yesterday 07/04?
 

My ACpro tells me tank temp is 80deg but my chiller digital display says the temp is 85deg. I dipped my coralife temp meter and it says 84deg. Now I don't know which one should a use a reference.

What do you guys used to calibrate your temp monitor?

I remember on my ACJR I had to calibrate the temp. I just remember I had to set it along with the PH prob. I would ask this in the sponsor forum.

that is a little strange, I'd go with your chiller and coralife for that one. I know temps can vary within a few degrees though, and it also depends on where the probe is. Did you try sticking the probes in the same place?

The ACpro and coralife probes were in close proximity -- they're both in the sump. I touched the water in the sump and I don't feel the temp is 85deg. I might probably have to borrow my company's temp meter that is NIST calibrated to adjust the temp on my ACpro and chiller.

Ah that's odd. Think it's a coincidence that your coralife and chiller are both off and the ACpro is right on?

My thermometers once showed a huge discrepency, and I found out it was because one was next to a really hot return pump, and the other right near the fan blowing over the water surface. =X

My AC home unit died yesterday.
Home was 87, tank was 82.
Evaporation rocks!!!!

My house was also at 87 yesterday and I don't have AC. My wife don't like low temp.

I was outside all day =X Nice balmy 78 degrees in my backyard bbq

You are lucky. When my house hit 80, the AC will be on. My wife can't handle the heat.

The easiet thing to do is to have a cheap old-school thermometer on hand. ELectronics can be off, but physics and chemistry is not. Just use one of the $2 thermometers from your LFS and use that to calibrate everything else.

I didn't run the A/C and was gone all day!!

2 sets of fans over the sump kept it no higher than 80.5. No chiller or air conditioner in my home, but then I live in SF.

Like what Jedi said, mercury doesn't need to be periodically recalibrated, in fact I'll go one step further and say get a lab grade thermometer, sometimes those cheapy ones at the LFS are hard to read unless you have microscope vision (i.e. are near sighted). Basically just get a long thermometer, I have one that I've been using that works well, only problem is it's in celsius, I'm eyeing one that's accurate to 1/10th of a degree too, but the one I have is fine enough, 25-26 C = 77-78.8 F

Got home around 12am last nite and my tank was 81 degrees.. My wife closed the door on the fishroom and it traps a ton of heat from all the lights.. I ahve 2 10" high velocity fans that turn on with the lights.. With the door closed though the temp still will come up.. I opened up the door and turned the fans on for about 30 minutes and the temp came back down to about 79 ....

No chiller, no AC.

My tank hit 86 :(
I don't think I lost anything, thankfully.
I think my thermometer reads a bit high though.

Don't even know how HOT it got in Tracy yesterday.. I know my dog didn't even want to go outside to pee..

But inside my house is 78-80. Once my lighting turned on, my chiller would kick in every couple of hours..

the AC temp probes definitely need to be calibrated. There were several threads about how far off they are, or can get.

Also, wasnt' there something with a grounding issue with some of the ACs and various temp/ph/orp probes ?

Tank hit 82. Well my tank always hits 82 or 81, any higher I tun off mh mh's for the rest of the day and use PC's.

Mine hit 86 also. I dont see any losses but my skimmer went crazy and overflowed and the room smells like death. i guess we will see.

Yah, me too.
I have loads of fans but my tank scraped 86. Ice water bottles brought it down to 85.8 :mad:

My house didn't seem that hot as my wife had run AC but then she doesn't blast it when she's home ever.

I've turned the lights off today and will turn them on when I get home and crank AC. Next thing to do is somehow direct the ac output straight onto the tank but the outlet is not that close by so I don't quite know how to do it.

Coming from a different place from CA, it really pi55es me off that they don't insulate houses decently over here.... that's gotta be the next housing project.

My lights turn on at 7:30pm, avoiding the hottest parts of the day, which helps a lot.

The tank is also in the basement, so it's always a nice 60 degrees in there no matter what the temp is like outside.

With the 112 degree temps we hit here yesterday (according to our outdoor thermometer) our tank rose to just over 80, which is hotter than it has been since we set it up the end of last year. Thankfully our eco cooler is able to keep the temps down, but it is not doing as good a job as it did last year during the heat wave. I can only assume that the feed pump we are currently using it just less capable than the feed method we used last year.. that or there is that much difference between our old and new tank (I know there is a size difference, but wasn't sure it would present like this in the heat).
