You mean foaming of the water in the skimmer? not really I wouldnt think because you can control the back pressure by adjusting the gate valve. It might cause some bubbles in the sump from the water splashing down.

Just got a Euro Reef RS 250 and love it. I have it on my 150 gallon reef, inside my 75 gallon sump. It's sitting in about 10" of water and seems to be working great but should it be sitting in less water? I know what the manual says but this skimmer is much taller than the RS 80 so shouldn't it be in deeper water?

What ER told me is have the water level just even with the top of the pump elbow on the RS250. I had it there and just below the elbow. It worked great either way.

What does have to be the correct flow through the skimmer on a RC model?. I modded my ES5-3 and I have heard too much opinions about it.

Hello all! I am now an owner of an older es5-3, and wanted to know if anyone has the parts I will need to gate-valve mod this? Also, what is the prime level to keep the water at?

Hoyta, I have the same skimmer. I made the diy gate valve with white pvc from home depot, and gate from us plastics online. Gate was around $16, but pvc was less than $5. Works great, much easier/finer control over skimming level. Mine is in 8-9" water, maybe deeper than some recommend, but it does a great job for me, so I won't mess with success. Mine is on a 90g, with 40g sump, mixed reef.

Carlos: Your flow through rate should be 1 - 1.5 times your system volume per hour. So if you have a 100g display and a 50g sump then your flow rate should be 150g per hour for best results or 225 if you wish to have a faster flow through.

Ok. My system is 65 display + 20 sump = 85g. The flow have to be between 65 - 97.50 GPH. By the way my skimmer is a ES5-3. It is enough for my system?

I will be buying the RS250. Currently planning out my sump and deciding how high my baffles need to be. Is the 6-8" water level a generic number you guys recommend for all your in-sump skimmers? Or is there a different number for the RS250?

You have to keep the water level over the discharge elbow. That's it.

The RS 250 is a great skimmer tbone28. I have one and love it.

I have noticed that without air valve is too much air.

you should adjust it as needed for your application. If there is too much air then dial it back a little. take your time, do adjustments slowly, and in small increments.
