bicintus spawning
 

So now the [i]bicinctus[/i] are spawning. These were purchased in July 2001 as ORA juveniles. I figure they were 6 months old when purchased, so 3 years till spawning. They spawned at 6:30 pm, just after I got home from work, so I got to try out a new digital camera's video mode. After fiddling with some file converting software, I managed to get the video to 30 second spots at less than 500 KB. Downloads on my blazing 49 kbps in 1.5 minutes. Files are .avi format, MPEG-4 video high speed compressed (will run in Windows Media Player 6.4).

I tried to rear 3 batches of [i]nigripes[/i] eggs, but no success. They continue to spawn regularly, but I gave up for now (lots of work, no time). Probably will not try the [i]bicintus[/i] just yet either. Nice to see spawning, though, because it is my feedback that all is ok in the tank. By the way, they are spawning, like the [i]nigripes[/i], in tanks that have other species of clownfish. Enjoy.

Just a question to you, and any other breeders of A. bicinctus, do males have to be that large before the pair will start to dance?
I have a grown 4 incher that I want to pair up. Found it labled as "U.S. captive breed" clarkii.... (for 19.99). Seemed to be too good to be true, so grabbed it with a fat clarkii, threw them into frag tank, and now have each seperated into seperate quarters. Looking for a mate for each, but curios about size of mate before courtship turns to egg-laying. I am looking for a much smaller mate for bicinctus, just wondering if anyone has seen a spawn with a much smaller male to female size comparison....

Are the videos placed somewhere where they can stay there and take some traffic? The reason I ask is this should be part of the FAQ as it is a perfect documentation of a spawning. If that is OK with you, I can PM Carlos and ask him to include this post in there.

Nice videos! I just got a male Bicinctus from IA to pair up with my female that I have had for about a year now. At first the female would beat the male up pretty bad, but now they are getting along fine. Can't wait for them to spawn. Oh and acrohead, my male bicinctus is about that size and is the same size as my female.

Is there an easy sex determination in looks between boys and girls in the Bicinct? I have never seen a good breeding "pair" pictured, always just one or other, so no differences could be noted...thanks. Still looking for the definative "bicinctus" website to give me more info on this species.

Acrohead - both my [i]bicintus[/i] look exactly alike. I only know the difference based on the observed spawning. The male is very slightly smaller, almost not noticable, except that I raised these from juveniles, so can differentiate them now.

I originally had 6 juveniles. They displayed the usual dominance displays over the years, and 2 of them quickly became the adults. The other juveniles remained small, but were lost during parasite infestations. Which reminds me, both the spawners were treated with CopperSafe and Maracyn on 3 occasions (d*** clownfish), yet they are still spawning. Same with the [i]nigripes[/i].

JHardman - I posted them at my old webpage, which is never updated anymore, so they will be there for a while (years). If I ever catch the [i]nigripes[/i] in the act, they will end up there too. The site is just a personal web page through my ISP, AT&T. Nothing fancy. I was looking into doing video streaming just to learn how, but it looks like a special server is needed, which AT&T does not provide.

Nice job with the bicintus. With regards to video streaming, you are streaming them. HTTP protocol is a streaming protocol.

When I launch your video's in a brower with an associated mime type, it launches. If my connection is too slow, it pauses to buffer, I can fast forward, rewind. Thats streaming.

You might be talking about multicasting type of streaming, or something using RTP type protocols, thats where you require a special server like Darwin or Helix.

thats cool video, but what kind of time are you keeping? those 30 second vid clips are like 3-5 seconds.

Neat videos, but the sound track needs work. Should play some dynamic classical music, maybe overlayed with some moaning from a porn tape - not that I would know.
