my diy deltec skimmer (lots of pics)
i decided to start a new thread on my new skimmer. it has all the fetures of the top of the line skimmers on the market. some of the work is done on a cnc router and some is done in my garage. im adding a keyed flange between the cone riser and the main body for easier cleaning.
i also added a wet neck to my design to improve performance. its short in order to get it under my stand. the main body is 12" tube and the cup is 10" tube. the riser is 3" tube with a 4" wet neck. this skimmer will have 3-4 ocean runner 2700 pumps and a mag 3 to feed it. the wet neck will be tapped off the ca reactor line. the clear flange will be replaced with a cnc cut black keyed flange. More pictures please. Look promising.

i will post pics when i get farther on it.
|
Why did you decide to go 3" on the neck rather than 4"
|
i have both 3" and 4" but im trying the 3" first. if it dont work that well i can change the whole top over to fit the 4" i want to see if the 3" will make the foam rise higher and not combine itto bigger bubbles before it overflows into the cup.

At one point were you planning to make the 12" tube from sheet acrylic? Did you do that for the skimmer shown?
|
no this one is with standerd 12" tube. i havent got my oven built yet to form the tube. its taking alot longer than i thought. im hoping to start making tube in the future though. i cant set a date though. some day i hope to make 10" 12" 14" and 16" tube. but its still a logn way off yet. im still trying to get alot of different parts perfected. but its slowly comming together.

this is a 6" top im making for a guy. its not finished yet but its getting there. im waiting on a cutter to make the groves in the lid.

update pictures
here is some pics of my progress. i have been delayed by parts and still need more parts. i guess thats the way it goes when you think you have it and dont. :D :D :D
so here it is with 2 of the 4 pumps on it. i have to order more bulkheads before i can mount the other 2 pumps. these are just sitting in place. i want to get everything fit before gluing it together. heck yeah let it be know. blast it around :D no biggie to me. i like answering questions and helping out
skimmer is shaping up. any reason you went w/ the OR pumps instead of sedras or something else Lunchbucket |
the wattage is alot lower on the or pumps. i thought i would try them first. plus they are german made and half the price of sedra pumps.
|
spazz:
Where did you get the bulkhead fittings that go through the body of the skimmer ? |
Those are uniseals...

From what I've seen of Deltec that appears to be much better made. Good job.
