10 gallon cracked botton

I found a 10 gallon tank in the trash and it has a cracked\broken bottom and i was thinking about tearing the rest of the bottom out and putting in a peice of acrylic and sycloning it up real good

could this work?

TriGa22 01/03/2008 01:07 AM

Tree6foot6 01/03/2008 01:27 AM

Hey Tree6foot6, A 10 Gal. tank at walmart is less then $10.

If the tank is glass (they usually are) the silicone will have a difficult time binding to the acrylic. Additionally, the acrylic plate will like double or triple the cost of a new 10 gallon tank.

Yeah, it's tough to bond acrylic to glass with much strength, and the bottom of the tank is arguably the place where you want the MOST strength. Not worth the time/effort/money (and flood risk if it does actually initially work) IMO.

looks like ill be buying a new one if they are less than10 dollers.

+1, you will spend more time and money than its worth. If you were close I would give you one of my backups!
