Carpenter's Flasher vs McCosker's Flasher Wrasse

I want to get a wrasse for my 60 gallon reef and I was thinking about getting the Carpenter's Flasher until I saw the McCosker's Flasher Wrasse.

Which one would you get and why?

I've been thinking about getting a mccosker's flasher every since i saw them in live aquarias drivers den. The super males look so stunning! Thats what i would do.

If you get a flasher wrasse, especially McCoskers, you need to light acclimate them as well as the normal process for a new fish. Both are great fish especially if you pair them.

McCosker, because it looks better and both are about the same hardiness.

What is this opinion based on? /\

i like the carpenters because it has more than one filament but i like the flashers with lots of filaments..but i have kept both and they are both really nice fish to keep

agreed, a nice carpenters is usually a nicer fish then the mccoskers because it has more filaments. I have seen some really nice mccoskers also, but if you put a perfect specimen of both side by side you would probably think the carpenters was nicer. the one in my avatar is a carpenters, sorry for the crappy pic but it was the only one i got before he went carpet surfing

What about a yellowfin flasher? I think they are just as nice as mccosker's and they can have 1, 2, or 3 filaments.

What is the chances of them leaving together in a bigger tank?

wrasseguy2 01/11/2008 07:56 PM

i had a mccoskers and carpenters in a 180 with no problems...i used a specimen cup to acclimate the fish...the carpenters went in after the mccosker..the mcocsker cam up to the cup the first day and after that they would rarely flash at each other..i would not try that in my 90 though

I can't seem to find the Flasher Wrasse picture thread. Can someone please post a link this thread.

Thats the one. Thanks a lot.

IME, the flashers aren't as nasty to one another as you might think.

I have three yellowfins in my 75G, and the most aggression I ever see is some flashing and a bit of chasing.

(Maybe this isn't the norm?)

Based on this experience, I would try them both. I'd wait for some other folks to chime in though.
