Thermos trade other then zoas?

Does anyone ever thermos trade anything besides zoanthids and mushrooms? I see lots of thermos trading but not much else besides zoathids.

It seems to me that other things (sps and lps) can be traded just as easily using two day USPS priority mail so why not? A little care in packing goes a long way.

I have a thermos and I'm willing to give it a try, anyone else?

bmac 06/04/2006 11:09 PM

I am game, what do you have to trade ? I have various sps frags to try.

Pyrojon 06/05/2006 07:04 AM

I have a decent millipora with teal polyps and blue tips, as well as a few polyps of blastomosa. I also have plenty of posscillapora (basic brown but nice nonetheless) and a purple cap that I believe is the Tyree odaho grape (or whatever it's called). Not to mention plenty of hammer coral with pink tipped polyps.

I'm sorry, my camera was stolen recently so I don't have any pics.

I was thinking of trying to ship damp. Wrap in wet paper and bag with a small ammount of water. Many corals do quite well this way and shipping weight is drasticly reduced without all the water.

Hey you being in PA, I think that UPS Ground would be overnight anyway.

What do you think?

skyedolphan 06/06/2006 08:25 AM

Hi Jon Im game hehe

N_Sarno 06/06/2006 05:50 PM

I'd like some blasto.. i've got some acan lord.. what color blasto is it..?

Pyrojon 06/07/2006 10:15 PM

Blasto is red with green centers.
Acan sounds like a nice trade.

I will try to dig up a camera to get some pics tomorrow when the lights are on.

N_Sarno 06/07/2006 10:45 PM

Ok... cool.. post a pic or PM me w/ it.. I am going out of town for a week.. leaving on Saturday.. and wont return till the following saturday.. just to let you know.. so we may have to hold off on the trade until after then.

Dactyl 06/11/2006 09:34 AM

im game. i was reading calfo's coral propagation book and thinking about the dry method using easter basket grass or rubberbanding frags to packing peanuts to float them in a bag.

Pyrojon 06/11/2006 11:45 AM

I will have to review that part of the book. I would like to use as little water as possible to keep the weight down.

Dactyl and Bmac what would you like to trade?
I can send a couple frags of my teal polyp, blue tip, millipora or some poscillapora, or a polyp or three of blasto. Maybe go from me to bmac, to dactyl and back to me? That is if you don't want to wait for n_sarno to get back from vacation.

Jon

Dactyl 06/11/2006 11:53 AM

ive got orange cap, green digi, flourescent green zoos, purple tip digi, orange digi and safecrackers. what do you guys have?

btw read this article all the way through. http://www.reefkeeping.com/issues/2005-11/eb/index.php
seems the best method for sps is seawater dampened paper towel in a bag.

lizardking38 06/23/2006 08:39 PM

Did this trade happen yet? If not, I am interested.

21Reefman 06/23/2006 09:55 PM

I'm in

(Not the 1st pic though)Here's what I have.
http://s36.photobucket.com/albums/e42/ryhosk/

Pyrojon 06/24/2006 12:25 AM

Dactyl, that's exactly what I had in mind.

21Reefman, when you say not the 1st pic, did you mean pic #2, it looks like a blue montipora digitata? If not, I would love a piece of that.

I have a teal polyp with blue tip millipora and a few polyps of blastomusa that is red with bright green centers.

What's the best route for the thermos to take, Here (Boston) to Miami to Chicago and back? Any thoughts?

I can put a few frags of each of my things into the thermos and send it to the first guy who will take a frag or two and replace with another few frags and on and on? Is that basicly how it usually goes? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Jon

sedorusc 06/24/2006 05:41 AM

I am also game. I have some brown digitata and quite a large birdsnest that I can send several frags of 2-3" each. let me know when we start.

skyedolphan 06/24/2006 07:21 AM

Ryan what is that purple/blue thing in the second pic?
LOL it looks almost like a poor linkia that got stuck in the sand

Pyrojon 06/24/2006 08:51 AM

Linkia was my first thought as well, but looking closely it looks like a digitata. If so it's the most amazingly blue digi I have ever seen.

Ok, let's finalize the list I guess.

Everyone interested right now please chime in with your name, location, and what you have to offer.

Pyrojon, Boston, MA
Teal/Blue Milli
Red/Green Blastomussa

Where can you find a cheap thermos? :)

Pyrojon 06/24/2006 03:46 PM

Try walmart or one of those big department stores.

dmbnpj 06/24/2006 03:47 PM

So a thermos will automatically keep the stuff at the right temp?

sedorusc 06/24/2006 05:51 PM

it will maintain the temp of you water for hours to days. the insulation in the thermos helps with this.

dmbnpj 06/25/2006 08:27 AM

So water in a thermos stays around 81 degrees?

Pyrojon 06/25/2006 07:04 PM

That's what a thermos is supposed to do.

I recently bought a thermos for my wife at WalMart, it was about $6 (I think) and I believe it had a glass inner jacket. Anyway, I filled it up with boiling water at night and capped it. The water was still steaming hot when I poured it out in the morning.

dmbnpj 06/25/2006 07:39 PM

Cool, harris teeter has thermoses on sale for $2.99. Anyone want to trade for some pulsing xenia, spaghetti leather, possibly some zoas, montipora frag, millepora SPS, frilly mushrooms?

Pyrojon 06/26/2006 09:37 AM

What colors and types of montipora and millepora do you have?

I was specificly trying to do sps in this thread.
