Need a pump recomendatiom for closed loop

I have a 58 gallon reef with some dead spots so I opened up my rockwork and am going to introduce more flow through a closed loop. I was looking at the gen-x mak4. Will this pump do the job? It is rated to do 1190 gph? If not this one wich one.

Heres a link to the pump http://www.marinedepot.com/aquarium_pumps_gen-x_mak-4_mak-5.asp?CartId=

thanx

I run one on my skimmer. Good reliable pump (knock on wood).

Kinda loud though - if you're putting this in the stand, I'd reconsider...

Milleme 07/07/2006 10:39 PM

What pump would you recomend instead?

Jamesurq 07/07/2006 10:46 PM

As long as heat isn't an issue Velocity T4 would work well and is super quiet.

Sequnce dart very quit.

Milleme 07/07/2006 11:31 PM

man the sequnce and velocity are both pretty pricey? Are there any others that are a bit cheaper ($120 range). If not I guess Ill have to keep saving up.... like always. Is the panworld 50px reliable and quite?

My panworld (Blue line) is way quieter than my Gen-X. Others have reported that theirs are loud, but mine is as quiet as my Dart. May want to look into them here .

Go with the mak4. Its a great pump.

Iwaki 40 rlxt Japanese motor. Time proven reliable pump.

Relatively quiet although none are silent except for the Velocity which has heat transfer issues.

how about a mag 5 or 7

Milleme 07/08/2006 10:03 AM

I want something bigger than a mag 5 or 7. Are the bigger mags reliable?

McCrary 07/08/2006 10:07 AM

They're reliable, but have a lot of heat transfer and can be very noisy. I had the Eheim pumps recommended to me instead of the mags.

All of mine have been fine...and shirley if its a closed loop the pump is outside of the water.
