Is hundreds of baby snails a bad thing?
 

I discovered a few days ago that I have about 100 baby snails everywhere. They are more prevalent at night.

About a third of them are definitely Cerith snails, but the other 70 or so look like tiny turbo snails. I am not concerned about the Ceriths, but the (more numerous) "turbo snails" have my attention.

I was thinking at first that they were those little white pyramid snails that attack the Clams, but they are not going anywhere near the Clams and pretty much stick to the hard green algae.

Anything in particular to look out for???

Those are probabaly collonistas, and they are fine. Most snails tend to graze at night while the fish are asleep.

Yep, you're probably seeing adults of small species rather than babies. The ones that look like [i]Turbo[/i] are probably [i]Collonista[/i] and the ones that look like ceriths are probably rissoids. Both are harmless and the populations are self regulating with the amount of food.

Anyone have a link to a good site to ID tiny hitchhiker snails? I've got hundreds of one type of snails, had them for awhile. Now I've got a completely different type of tiny snails that are showing up. I'm not really worried about them being a problem...just kind of curious.
