Aquarium Obsessed Cube

I currently have a 22g Finnex and ran out of room a while ago. Any reefer knows what that means, UPGRADE!!!
Tank:
Aquarium Obsessed Blue Series 60 gallon cube (24x24x24)
Rimless, 3 sides 1/2" Starphire with black silicone and
Smoked glass center overflow
Stand:
A custom steel stand is in the works
Filtration:
Simple sump with Bubble King Mini 160
Red Dragon Return pump
Tunze 6100's for circulation
Lighting:
24" 4x24w ATI Powermodule with KZ Bulbs (3 coral light, 1 fiji purple)
Aquascaping:
Im going to keep it very simple, pulling inspiration from the Japanese Style aquascaping methods. Im also going to try and aquascape by the "Golden Ratio" of Aquascaping outlined in invincible569's blog. It will be interesting to see how it comes out.
Livestock:
SPS!

Here are a few pictures of the equipment I have acquired so far, most notably the 24" Powermodule :mixed:
Tank all crated up fresh from Canada:

I hope to have this running soon, Im ordering the Red Dragon this week and the stand will hopefully be done soon.

Yes, interested too in cost + shipping ... even if you only feel like sharing via PM or "ballpark" cost...thanks. May differ significantly depending on USA Zip Codes.

I'm tagging along...looks like this build will be fun!

- Matt

p.s. Do you have a thread on the prior tank? (I have an empty never used Finnex 22g all in one tank that I'd planned on setting up sometime after the current tank project I'm setting up...click red house if interested) Would love some details or info to share on the Finnex 22g tank. THANKS.

CamBarr 11/06/2007 08:19 PM

Check on the AO website they have the Blue Series System 60 listed to give you a ballpark

sweet set up...tagging along

cpreefguy 11/07/2007 12:17 AM

PSam- thanks! I also really like how clean these tanks look, the black silicone really sets it off, I think.

Flint&Eric- I wish I could have gone that big, maybe in the future Ill be ordering a bigger tank from them. They were a pleasure to do business with. The only hard part was waiting for it to get here, even though it was only about 5 days :D

drawman- If you check out their website, you can see the prices for the different blue series tanks. I think for what you get, the price was very reasonable.

CamBarr- I can get some detailed pics for you this weekend. I must say that this is the highest quality tank Ive ever owned. The silicone work is amazing, I also love the ground and high polished edges, good stuff!

Ocean In A Box- Shipping was very reasonable for this tank. Including the freight, crating, duties, etc, it came out to a few hundred or less if I remember correctly. I dont really have a thread on my Finnex, I got it a little over a year ago, just in time to fill it full of goodies from the MACNA in Houston :) It has been a great tank, Ill try to see if I have all of the specs in a thread somewhere.

wow...rimless tank is very nice and the light too..

NanoReefWanabe 11/09/2007 04:39 PM

yeah...AO rocks...i was there Yesturday talking to Will

watching the process of his tank building prowess...they are great builders there, and are great guys to deal with..

i was looking at buying that exact tank the other day, almost walked out the door with one they are so nice..i think my wife would shot me if i brought home a 60 gallon tank to play with though...she is cranky enough about the 20...LOL

cpreefguy -
If you could dig up any details on the finnex setup that would be awesome!
Nice looking cube you're about to start, can't wait to see the future build.
Regards, Matt

I've seen these tanks in person - they are beautiful!

CamBarr 11/14/2007 01:09 AM

any updates

cpreefguy 11/24/2007 11:33 PM

Sorry, I wish I had something to update! The build is going slow as I imagined it would. I have been swamped at school lately, but Im guessing I can get some real progress done after finals in December. Hopefully I will have the stand, sump, and return pump by January.
On a side note, I am running the 4x24w Powermodule on my current tank using a 1:1 of the KZ Coral light and KZ fiji purple bulbs. I have to say that this fixture blows me away! It runs very cool, and the color I get from it is outrageous. Ill update tomorrow with some pics of my current tank.

fisheebill 11/24/2007 11:38 PM

Great!

Ocean In A Box 11/25/2007 12:07 AM

Any prior "M" info appreciated! ;)
And, any further updates on the AO cube too!
Tx, Matt

Ocean In A Box- This is the only thread I can find on my Finnex.

It is amazing to look at that picture and see how everything has grown!
If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me and Ill be happy to answer them.

Here are a few pictures I took today to show the 4x24w Powermodule and what the color output looks like with 1:1 Fiji Purple and Coral Light.

Thanks! These pictures were taken right before my water change/cleaning, and the Tunze got a haircut :eek2: I think I got about another 100gph after cleaning it.

chriis716 11/26/2007 12:32 AM

killer set up!!!

Ocean In A Box 11/27/2007 03:02 AM

Really nice! Also, thanks for the link.

Ocean In A Box 11/27/2007 03:06 AM

Also, in that link you sent you mentioned all corals being attached to a "single reef ceramics pillar"

What did you mean? Something you made or is it just a single vertical column of liverock glued together or ?

Thx...Matt

cpreefguy 11/27/2007 10:38 AM

I got the piece from Captive Oceans. It is made by a company called Reef Ceramics, and is just one central piller. They make larger pieces as welll and look really cool! Try searching for it here and you will see people with large tanks that have used it.

uhuru 12/03/2007 10:39 PM

How do you like the powermodule? Does it provide sufficient spread from front to back?
