New tank & bulb... finally! lol

Well I went down to Petco and took adavatage of the awesome sale and picked up a nice new 40g breeder. Just need to either find a stand for sale or make one now =)

Also ordered the 150w DE Phoenix 14k bulb, can't wait to swap it out with that yellow 10k that's in there now.

So now my mission is to find a stand (one in Denver, but dunno how I can pick it up) and some live sand as I decided to switch back over to white. The black is nice, but is a pain to keep clean as it gets a ton of white pieces on it from the LR.

Also, when I painted the back of my 29g I spray painted with Krylon and it worked ok but took a ton of coats. Is there a better way to do this one, like a latex type paint or something?

Roush, here is link to my stand build using 2x4s and 1x4s;

[/B][/QUOTE] Scott at ET uses a latex and puts it on with a roller. It goes on a llot thicker than the spray cans. Call him and find out what type he uses.

Right on, I'll have to see what it is he uses.

Ended up buying another 40g and 2 more 20L for sumps. At such a good deal, how could I not pick em' up? =)

Are you running a single 150 over your 40BDR? How do you like it? I'm trying to decide what to do right now myself!

Cant' wait to swap out my 10k that came with the fixture for a 14ker. I noticed a huge difference in the other tanks that already have em. I am sure you'll be pleased! Keep us posted.

Yeah, one of them I'm setting up with the single 150w Coralife Pro, the other will most likely get dual pendants.

Picked some Hydor Koralias also, got them in the 29g for now with 2 1200 maxijets.

Still don't have the 40g up, as I need to make stands but I don't have the tools to do it unfortunately...

Oh, and I went with black vinyl for the back of the tanks, worked really well, no mess and no wait time and can be easily changed. And it was free =)

Did I mention I'll supply the beer for help with the stand build?

And I don't buy that waterdown'd junk either

cinder blocks and floor ply just too simple

Thurge 09/30/2007 09:39 AM

I have built many a stand. Case of beer + materials and I can build you a stand and hood as elaborate or simple as you want. Shoot me a PM if your interested.

Awesome!

I can order an allglass pine stand at cost, but that's still over $100 and not a great stand IMO. Materials for a DIY seem to be around $30-40 or so for a simple similar type stand, does that sound about right?

I really like this stand here:

I'd just want mine black I think, as the light, trim and everything else are black. No need for doors, and just a simple skin to cover the exposed 2x4s.

I have almost this exact setup, as far as 40g breeder, 20g sump and soon to come ASM or Octopus skimmer. Sump is already baffled the same way also. Just need to get the stand built...

roushracer 10/15/2007 06:07 PM

I'd even be down for it to just be the 2x4 frame, with a plywood floor on the top and bottom for the tank and sump. Dunno how much those side and front skins would save me, but I think it'd look fine without them.

He even replied with a cut list also for me
