Whats the goal to getting zoas to spread like fire?

I talked with some friends and some that don't even do anything to their tank have them all over the place. While another that keeps his tank up to parems they dont seem to spread. Both use 250w halides. Any idea why?

I think think they grow faster in dirtier water, because they feed off of it.

I have T-5s and mine grow like crazy. After about 2 years there 20x what they where before.

I keep my Cal, and ALK in check

not having super clean water and blowing them off weeklywith a powerhead is key to growth IMO.

I do the latter and it not only keeps the colonies super healthy and growing faster than they would, but its good for the tank. you should do it to all of your rock as well.

I keep sps domintated ssytems with tons of flow and they simply dont grow super fast for me, (they used to).....but im ok with it as long as they look good and are healthy.

Some interesting information here, blowing the zoas every now in than? How does that help with growth?

I use a turkey baster to blast mine, it lows all the detritus and crap out from under them

happyface888 12/12/2007 02:44 AM

I still don't understand how blasting them with a baster helps them grow faster besides removing the detritus build up.

If you want them to grow fast, they will grow slow. If you want them to grow slow, they will grow fast. That's all there is to it.
