Healing for Mouth Injury
 

I placed two 3" Scott's Fairy Wrasses under observation in a 10 gallon quarantine tank.

They seemed healthy for the past three weeks(eating eagerly), until yesterday I noticed that the mouth of one seemed highly deformed and the other once seems slightly injured.

I will try to post pictures when possible.

I can only speculate on the cause, but one hypothesis is that there was some aggression between the two S.F. wrasses.(However, I have not personally observed any agression among them.)

Question: What would you recommend to promote healing and reduce any risk of bacterial infection?

Assuming good diet, pristine water conditions, and no more aggression, the wounds will probably heal to the extent that they can by themselves. If you see signs of infection, carefully moving the fish to quarantine and treating with an antibiotic may help. Nitrofurazone or Maracyn-Two are good choices.

If the jaw was broken there may be nothing you can do.
