Strange tendril
Hi Ron,
It looks like two blades (leaves) at the end of a long tendril that can stretch 12" easily from the liverock. Here are a series of images. What is it? And is it anything to worry about? ;) |
Hi Marc,
It is the proboscis of a bonellid echiuran worm. See here for some more information. The worms are harmless detritivores. |
Thanks Ron. I had one before in my 55g that was brown, but this one is green and larger. Thought I should double check. Thanks!

I really think that is in the sponge family, myself.
|
Hi whodah,
Marc's correct, what you have taken an image of is a piece of sponge. |
Thanks Marc and Ron. I have the same thing in my tank and it's been freaking me out.
|
cool, i did not know that sponges stretched out like that! the most i've seen him stretch out is about 6".
i swear he was 'lassoing' some neighboring paly frags and dragging them closer, heh! |
Great info.
Thanks Alot. Bill. |
