Ahh... Baby steps.

I sincerely hope that the $250 in parts for the 2 manifolds I have already built will be practice enough.

jnarowe 01/09/2008 05:45 PM

$250 in parts for those? why so much?

Kannin 01/09/2008 05:51 PM

4 x 1.5 inch ball valves plus unions. 2 x 1 inch ball valves plus unions. 9 x 3/4 inch ball valves. Plus untold "T's" and elbows.

jnarowe 01/09/2008 07:02 PM

yeah, it does add up. I just shredded my rceipts.

Kannin 01/09/2008 07:54 PM

See... Fortunately for me, I don't need to shread mine because my wife is saving them to hold against me at a later date.

hahahaha, I hear ya there. I make sure that I say "well I traded some frags, so I didnt have to pay anything, I swear!!"

jnarowe 01/09/2008 08:39 PM

I didn't use primer for years either. I used the Oatey Cleaner in the Yellow can.

Hope you didn't get fired for too many leaks.

Kannin 01/09/2008 10:04 PM

My xtra 50 lbs of Marco Rocks got delivered today. I'll start soaking them tonite so I can finish my rockwork this weekend. Right after I rebuild my manifolds.

My tag line says I hope to have it up and running by the end of the start of the year... It's still accurate. 2009!

jnarowe 01/09/2008 10:15 PM

doesn't matter.no one is going to hold you to that. :) (except maybe your wife!)

Kannin 01/10/2008 02:41 AM

My wife is still waiting for me to clean the garage which I said i would do in the summer... but, I didn't say which summer.

jnarowe 01/10/2008 03:01 AM

 yeah I hear ya...tough to get the honey-dos done nowadays.

Kannin 01/10/2008 03:42 AM

What are you doing up this late? You usually chime in around 8 in the morning.

jnarowe 01/10/2008 10:21 AM

I am not up late, I am up early! Had to get my bubble counter vid up last night and the music was giving me fits.

The primer certainly can't make it worse... right? My sanity can't afford another mistake.

jnarowe 01/10/2008 11:01 PM

If you are into captive reefs, your sanity escaped a long time ago. Just admit it and move on. :)

blcard 01/11/2008 05:52 PM

The primer cleans the pipe of the protective material they add at the factory. Its better to use it, but if its clean enough its not required. The more pressure the more important.

Kannin 01/11/2008 05:57 PM

Thanks... I think since I'm pushing 4000 gph thru it... I should use it. I picked up the parts for the rebuild along with some clear pvc glue today. Tonite... the fun begins.

blcard 01/11/2008 06:02 PM

Prime both parts, glue one, then 1/4 twist.

Never had that part leak. ;)

Kannin 01/11/2008 06:05 PM

I primed both and glued both... could that be why?

blcard 01/11/2008 10:11 PM

Depends on how much glue, if you did a lot then it could weaken the joint. It doesn't take much and you want it to dry well before putting in the water.
