strange growth on sand

Hey everybody,

I have something strange growing in my sand. It kind of looks like a flower. The stem protrudes from the sand and it has white feathery tip with brown dots. It almost looks like an extremely tiny feather duster. I have about 7 or 8 of these throughout my tank. Any ideas? It is too tiny for me even to get a decent picture of it.

Hard to tell. They hang in the SB also .They move around looking for better locations and are a great indicater of water quality and flow. They also reproduce. Here are some ID sites.GL.

Also, whenever a snail goes too close to it or my scraper touches it, the flower retracts just like a feather duster. I am beginning to think that these are featherdusters. I recently purchased a large feather duster. How do they reproduce? Now, I have these scattered throughout my tank. Are they known to be pests?

I think they spawn with a white cloud. Type that "how do feather dusters bread" in the google search engine then look for links and better yet any images.
